Tips For The IELTS Reading ExamTips For The IELTS Reading Exam

1. Formatting The IELTS Reading Test Text - (See Also: IELTS Reading Text Analysis Strategy)

Make a schedule such as 5 minutes checking the text and 5 minutes checking the questions and 7 minutes answering and 2 minutes checking and 1 minute final checking at the end, or whichever strategy is best for your situation. Underline key words and make a short summary next to each of the paragraphs for a few words to easily index the text and also when checking the questions, as you wish.

2. IELTS Reading Synonyms

Some answers may have alternative text to the questions, but mean the same thing. Therefore, do not expect that the vocabulary in the question will automatically be in the text and you just have to match the two togehter.

3. IELTS Reading Time

Although I have heard that some centers may ban bringing in a digital watch etc., at least try to bring one in to keep track of time, or otherwise, you will have to rely on their clock for time management. Answer all questions as best you can - if you do not answer a question, you defeinitely cannot get a grade for that one.

4. IELTS Reading Questions

For true/false/not given, try to make sure it is definitely "not given" etc.."True" means that something is correct according to the text that has been written / false = it condradicts information given and "not give" means that this information is not certain for yes/no from the data provided - you can see this link for more information: "http://www.ielts.org/test_takers_information/question_types/question_types_-_ac_reading.aspx". If you cannot answer move on and come back later. Also, for your prepration, try to become familiar with the other types of questions in this link.

5. IELTS Reading Instructions.

Follow the instructions carefully for answers to write - such as it may say write a specific number of words maximum and follow each instruction carefully.

Follow the instructions carefully for answers to write for each question that is requested in the IELTS listening exam - such as it may say write a specific number of words maximum and follow each instruction carefully. Equally, if it says "true / false / not given", write one of these instead of writing "yes" for example.
